CHALLENGE THEME

Every year, all TAKE48 participants are required to include a theme within their film. The theme includes a mystery item and line of dialogue, plus, a bonus theme that is unique to each year (e.g. genre, sound, camera move, edit technique etc).

 

The 2025 bonus theme was an ✂️ EDITING TECHNIQUE - Visual Match-cut ✂️ !

The theme is announced via social media, email and this website, as the challenge begins.

​

All participants must include every theme element in their film, as they are described. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from screening and prizes, so make sure you don’t miss any of the details!

FILM SUBMISSION

Films must be submitted through our online portal before the challenge deadline.

​

Failure to submit before the deadline may result in disqualification from prizes and screening, so make sure you leave yourself enough time for submission!

 

Full film submission details, including a back-up method in case of internet issues, are shared after registration via the Filmmakers' Hub. Check your registration email for a link.

SCREENING AT SUFF

All qualifying TAKE48 films have the chance to show on the big screen at The Sydney Underground Film Festival, in the weeks following the challenge weekend. ​

The overall challenge winners and additional award winners will be announced during the SUFF awards ceremony.

Online Screening Room

All TAKE48 films will also feature in the TAKE48 online screening room, which is a page showcasing all the films that have been created for TAKE48 over the years, so they can live on in their eternal glory!

JUDGING & SCREENING SELECTION PROCESS

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Films that are submitted on time and follow all rules and T&C’s will proceed as 'Qualifying films'. 
     

  2. Qualifying films are then scored by the TAKE48 & SUFF team, using a set criteria:
    - Creative use of all theme items (30%)
    - Narrative elements (30%)
    - Production elements (20%)
    - Post-Production elements (20%)
     

  3. Using these results;
    a) Films that score in positions 21st - 40th progress as 'Official Selection'.

    b) Films that score in positions 1st - 20th progress as 'Finalists'.

    c) All Finalists and Official Selection will show on the big screen at the TAKE48 Cinema Screening throughout SUFF.

    d) Finalists are shared with the judges to be scored again (using the same criteria as above). Overall challenge winners are decided based off these results.

    e) The TAKE48 & SUFF team will choose the winners of each of the additional award categories from the Finalists & Official Selection.
